Chapter 36

Entering the dining room, I find it already starting to fill with adventurers. Most tables are already taken, that is, apart from the largest. Little reservation placards are laid out, and I frown as I wave down the server.

The young brunette rushes over, smiling and waving. “Greetings, my Lord. We have your table ready for you.”

“You do?” I ask while looking around the room.

“We do! Follow me, please.” She adds a certain sway to her hips as she leads us away, and next to me, Nix lets a low growl rise up.

Soon everyone in the dining room is watching Nix and me, and both of us are starting to feel the pressure of their gazes. I don’t know if they know who we are, or if Nix is somehow making a scene. I’m really not sure.

To my surprise, the young girl takes us to the reserved table and pulls two of the place holders off.

“I’ll be right out with something to drink for both of you. Would you like to wait for the rest of your party before ordering?”

“Yes,” I say quickly.

With a wink, the girl spins and rushes off to bring us drinks.

“Did she wink at you?” Nix asks.

“I think she did. Why though?”

Grumbling, Nix shakes her head. Before she can respond, Joy and the others start appearing in the doorway.

Lifting my hand, I wave them down. Joy finds me right away, and waves for Ren to follow. Addison grabs Thomas, and starts pulling him along, keeping him by her hip. Terry smiles at the two before taking up the rear.

Once everyone is sitting, the server returns with Nix and my drinks. Seeing that everyone else is here, her smile brightens.

Setting the drink in front of Nix, the young girl turns to me. “I see everyone is here.” Passing me the drink, she makes sure to brush her hand across mine, earning her a glare from Nix.

Ignoring the beastkin, the server stands back up and addresses the group. “Does everyone know what they want?”

Joy smiles while looking at the proximity the server is standing to me, and then settling on Nix’s expression. I keep my own smile in place as the rest of my party sits, while doing my best to ignore the girl.

“What do you recommend?” I ask.

Inching closer, the server addresses me. “We have an amazing beef steak with potatoes this afternoon. We also have ribs, braised with a secret sauce. It comes with mixed vegetables, that are seasoned lightly.”

“Ribs for me,” I announce right away.”

“In your white shirt?” Nix asks.

“Of course!” I chirp back.

Shaking her head, Nix orders the steak. The others copy her a moment later, and the server rushes off, but not before trailing her fingers across my shoulder.

Joy seems even more amused, turning to Nix to ask, “Has she been doing that this entire time?”

Grumbling, the beastkin nods. “She started off with a sultry wink. Now, it seems, she’s grown bold.”

“Should I flirt back?” I ask.

A fist connects with my arm a mere moment after the words leave my mouth.
